The Chiefs x Optus

Optus has strengthened its ties to the world of Australian gaming by expanding its current esports roster by signing a 12-month sponsorship agreement with The Chiefs.

As part of the arrangement, The Chiefs team will conduct their training and streaming over an Optus nbnTM connection as well as supporting Optus in the development of exciting new gaming-specific products and services in the future.

The Chiefs are one of the most successful esports organisations in Australia with 17 national championships and having competed in events across 4 different continents.

They include professional teams in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the League of Legends Oceanic Pro League and Call of Duty, and boast a die-hard fan base.

Optus’ Head of Marketing, Mel Hopkins, said: “We’re excited to be adding The Chiefs to our esport sponsorship portfolio. As a major partner to The Chiefs, we will be working to expand our offering to Australian gamers and the team will play an instrumental part in our strategy moving forward,”

“Our Optus network will underpin the rapidly growing esports segments, providing a reliable platform to keep gamers connected and play online successfully. We look forward to working with the Chiefs and confirming our introduction into the gaming sector.”

The Chiefs Chief Executive Officer Nick Bobir, who oversees the esports operations, described the announcement as a significant partnership for The Chiefs.

“We couldn’t ask for a better partner in Optus. Gamers know how important a high speed and reliable internet connection is and need a provider they can trust. Through this partnership we will be able to assist the development of Optus products tailored to Australian gamers to optimise their gaming experience. This partnership reflects Optus's continued support of the development of esports & gaming in the ANZ region and ensures they have a direct link to The Chiefs professional players & creators for feedback on how to make their products and services better tailored to our industry.”

“Optus will be supporting our continued community events. These will allow our fans to get hands-on with Optus’ new products to test them out for themselves. Keep your eyes on our socials for ways to get involved.”
